FIRE ON BRITISH STEAMER

BROOKWOOD SAVED BY CREW. By Telegraph—Press Assn. —-Copyright. Sydney, Sept. 23. Unexpectedly the British cargo steamer Brookwood called at Port Kembla to replenish her bunkers. The officers told a graphic story of a fire which broke out while the vessel was in the Indian Ocean during the run to Mauritius. Fifty tons of coke were thrown overboard with bare hands to keep the flames and poison gases in cheek.
