FOUND DEAD IN HIS FLAT
INQUIRY INTO AUCKLAND DEATH. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. An inquest was opened; to-day into the .death of Charles Henry Wallis, aged 25, who was found dead m a flat in the city last night. A gas tuba led from the kitchenette to the room in which he was found. Wallis was a watchmaker and had been employed recently as a jeweller’s traveller. He left England about nine month ago and went to Sydney. He arrived in New Zealand only recently and had been living in the flat since August 6. Beyond these facts little is known about him. As far as is known he had no relatives in New Zealand. When he first took the flat lie frequently played a gramophone all day ling. When Wallis paid a week’s rent last Friday evening that was the last time he was seen until last night. No information about Wallis was given at the inquest, which was opened by Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M. After evidence had been giyen by the manager of the flats the inquiry was adjourned until Friday. A letter from a girl at Whangarei was found in the dead man’s room. She was communicated with ana said that she had met Wallis at Whangarei earlier this year. He had worked in the town for a time. She knew little about him. . "
