MORE AVHALING FACTORY SHIPS. The Furness Shipbuilding Company, Havorton Hill-on-Tees, has secured a contract from the Vestfold and Sydhavet companies, Oslo, for the construction of two whale-oil. factory ships. The vessels are to be 535 feet in length, with a beam of 74 feet, and a depth, fully loaded, of 33 feet 2 inches; the carrying capacity will be 21,500 tons. They will be driven by twin sets of quadruple expansion steam engines, each unit developing 3000 i.h.p. These will be supplied by Richardsons, Westgarth and Co., Ltd., West Hartlepool. The con- ’ tract price is on the basis of £303,000 cash, but payment is to be spread over sik years, the builders taking a first mortgage on the vessels. THREE TANKERS SOLD. Recent ship sales include three tankers which have b?en disposed of by the Anglo-Saxon Petroleum Co., Ltd., London, to Norwegian buyers. The vessels are the Buccinum, 8275 tons gross register, built in 1910; the Ebnrna, 7640 tons, built in 1913; and the Ranella, 7550 tons, built -this year. The Buccinum and Eburna were sold together, With time charters for 10 years at ss. 6d. per ton for the first five years, and ss. for the second five years. The Buc r cinum has made two visits to Wellington with motor-spirit cargoes for the Shell Company. HERTFORD AT AUCKLAND. Further wireless advice received from the Federal Line steamer Hertford stated that she would arrive from Liverpool at Auckland yesterday morning. The vessel has a general merchandise cargo from west coast ports of Great Britain. She will unload a quantity at Auckland and the remainder at Napier, Wellington, Lyttelton, Port Chalmers and NeW Plymouth.
