SUCCESSFUL YEAR PASSED. THE ANNUAL MEETING HELD. « Tlte third annual meeting of the Waiwaka Tennis Club was held last night, when Mr. 0. Johnson presided over c. fair attendance of members. The following report was adopted without discussion: —The membership! of the club has been well maintained, there being 82 subscribing members, consisting of 68 playing members (37 ladies and 31 men), 10 junior, and four honorary members. The club’s firianciat position is very satisfactory, and it is to see that the bank overdraft has this year been reduced by a further £'o. It is pleasing to notice, too, that £5O has this year been realis-<-1 from the efforts of members and friends. When it is considered that so much has been spent on improvements to the courts and grounds, of which expense much will be non-recurring, .we feel that the club’s financial position is very satisfactory. “ A contract has - been let for the laying down of a new court. The work is°to be finished by September 30,. so the court should be ready for opening day. - ■/ Of the usual tournaments conducted during the year the results were:— Championship events. —Ladies’ singles, Mrs. E. J. Brock; men’s singles, V. E. • Kerr; ladies’ doubles, Mrs. Brock and Mrs. Lovell; men’s doubles, J. H. Boon aud P. E. Trevelia; combined doubles, Mrs. Brock aud J. H. Boon. , Handicap events.—Ladies’ singles, 'Miss Smart; men’s singles, J. H. Boon; ladies’ doubles, Misses Smart apd Sanderson; men’s doubles, J. H. Boon and P. E. Trevelia; combined doubles, Miss Smart and J. H. Boon. The most improved players’ trophies (presented by Mr. O. Johnson) went to Miss G. Stephenson and R. Rea, and the junior members’ championship trophy (presented by Mr. C. White) went to J. Lynch. The balance-sheet showed an excess of assets over liabilities of £2OB and a profit on the year’s working of £64; The chairman, in moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, congratulated the club on' the very satisfactory state of its finances. He also commented suppn the happy state of the club socially and expressed himself as more than pleased with the friendly relations existing among members. ' • I The following officers were elected: Patron, Dr. M. Campbell; president, Mr. R. W. Tate; vice-presidents, five were elected; hon. secretary, Mr. L. W. Lovell; hon. treasurer, Mr. P. E. Trevelia; club captain, Mr. V. E. Kerr; hon. auditor, Mr. C. Smart; committee, Messrs. F. S- Grayling, G.' N. Kyngdon, R. M. Monteath, C. ,G. White and E. J. Brock; ladies’ committee, Mesdames Brock, Grayling, Lovell, Okey and Misses Sanderson, Smart ytarid Stephenson. Mr. Grayling moved on behalf of the general committee that Mr. O. Johnson, who under the rules retired from .the office of president, be elected a life member and that Mrs. Johnson be accorded a vote of thanks for her services. This was seconded by Mr. Richardson and carried by acclamation. A recommendation was made to the committee that a set of rules for ladde?- play as outlined by Mr. Kerr be adopted. ■ ' It was decided to try to arrange in-ter-club matches for C and D as- well as the A and B teams; The opening day was fixed for Saturday, October 4. The committee was recommended to play as many as possible of the handicap competitions before Christmas.,
