FUNERAL OF MRS. TOWNSEND
VICTIM OF FITZROY TRAGEDY. . The funeral of Mrs. Cora Alice Townsen, the’victim of Fitzroy tragedy 5 took place in New Plymouth yesterday. A large . number of people were present both at the service'in the Fitzroy Methodist Church and at Te Henui Cemetery. - , By special request of the relatives the Rev. R. B. Gosnell conducted the service. Mrs. Gosnell played the organ and several of Mrs. Townsend’s favourite hymns were sung. Suitable scripture lessons were read. In the course of his address Mr. Gosnell said that it was not a time for speaking many words. All that could be done was to sympathise with the relatives of Mrs. Townsend. He suggested that all must exercise control in the trying days ahead. A number of relatives of Mrs. Townsend .were present, some of them coming from Urenui, Uruti, Midhirst and other parts of Taranaki. The bearers were members and friends of the family. Later the cortege left for Te /Henui cemetery, followed by about 40 cars.
