MOTUROA AFFAIRS

MEETING OF LOCAL COMMITTEE. The Moturoa Ratepayers’ and Pro-’ gressive Association and Ngainotu Domain Committee met last night. Present: Mr. R. Glengarry (chairman), L. Sutton, P. J. Bartholomew, L. McConnell, W. Hunter, P. Frewin, F. Stevens, J. Harris, H. Saunders and E. O’Dea (secretary).. Mr. P. E. Stainton represented the borough council on the Domain Board. About three months ago the borough council completed the approach to the domain, a work involving the lowering of the heavy .gateposts at the entrance. The cost was much higher than the domain committee anticipated and as it would have to pay out of its borough subsidy it wag found it would be embarrassed financially for some time afterwards if it had to find the whole amount. The point was discussed with Mr. Stainton last night and as a result the chairman, the secretary and Messrs. Sutton and Honeyfield were appointed a deputation to wait on the council and place the position before it. Mr. Stainton assured the committee the council appreciated the work it was doing at the domain.

The borough council notified that the engineer had been authorised to effect temporary repairs to the crossing over Harbour Street in Pioneer Road. The council was not prepared to spend money on the triangular piece of land at the ■junction of South Road and Breakwater Road, but granted Mr. McKain permission to clean it and keep it in order should he desire.

It was decided that the deputation to wait on the council in connection with domain matters should discuss with the council the state of Pioneer Road. Mr. O’Dea said the placing of footpaths in Baily Road and Whiteley Street had been discussed with- the borough council some time ago and it had been suggested the paths might be formed by relief ■ workers. Nothing had been done, however.

Another point raised was the need for increased electric power for cooking and heating at Spotswood. It was said the council had agreed to remedy this trouble some time ago, but nothing had been done. It was 1 decided to mention these things to the council when the deputation waited on it.
