MAN ASPHYXIATED BY SMOKE EVIDENCE AT THE' INQUEST, By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Sept. 11. ? The inquest on Nichol Ferguson Cameron, who was found dead in the corridor of the Gresham Hotel during a fire on August 6, was held to-day. The coroner, Mr McNeil, retrned a verdict that Cam-eron-died from asphyxiation by smoke. The coroner said there was no reason, apparently, why Cameron should not have been able to make a safe escape, as the evidence showed that there was no obstruction in the passages and the fire escapes were in perfect order. J.he evidence also showed that Cameron was a heavy smoker, and there seemed to be no doubt that he was smoking in his room and by some means his bedclothes cauoht fire. Also, on account of two brandies he had had, he might not have been normal at the time the alarm was given..
