It transpires that Dufty stated he was suffering from injuries and held a doctor’s certificate to that effect. When asked if he were willing to produce the certificate he declined. Five other players, Gregory and Brisbane (Marist), Wetherill and Clarke (City), and Seagar (Devonport) were also called before the New "Zealand League in connection with their actions before the Auckland match. Gregory,Seagar and Clarke eventually. played and Wetherill and Brisbane produced medical certificates stating they were unfit. The explanations of the players were accepted but they were all ;reprimanded.
