SHARP RISE IN POTATOES. ■ PEAK PRICE NOT MAINTAINED. , i By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. ‘ During the past two days there has been a sharp rise in potato values. Yesterday potatoes were sold at £3 12s 6d f.o.b. and then the price increased until the peak was reached to-day, £4 5s a ton f.o.b. That price was paid for a few lots, but this afternoon a slackening was reported and there were no buyers at £4 2s Gd a ton f.o.b. On those prices the value of potatoes to the farmer to-day is between £2 15s and £3 a ton on trucks. The Waiuiarino left to-day with a small cargo totalling about 1100 sacks from Lyttelton and Timaru. The next boat to leave Lyttelton will lie the Wingatui, due to sail on September 8. There alteration in the price of wheat, oyts and chaff. Millers are buying an occasional line of next season’s wheat at 5s 9d f.0.b., or 5s 5d to 5s Gd on trucks, according to stations. Fowl wheat is firm at 6s 2d f.o.b. sacks extra.
