THE MONTH'S BUSINESS. , The monthly meeting of the Manaia Town oßard was held on Thursday,, there being present Messrs. A. J.' Christie, VV. H. Robinson, H. Syninmns, V. F. Winter and A. H. Yarrow (acting chairman). The sale of surplus hall seats was held over pending the appointment of a new hall committee. Mr. S. Enison applied for a lease of Section 9 Block 20 and it was resolved that the section be offered for five j’ears at a rental of 30s per annum. Mr. G. MacDonald applied for a lease of Section 3 Block 17 with a compulsory purchasing clause at the price of £lO. It was decided to grant a lease for five years, the lessee to pay rates only and to- purchase at £lO. The secretary of the Masonic Lodge submitted plans of a building proposed to be erected and applied for a permit. The cost of the building would be about £6OO. The permit was granted.* Mr. J. Davis was appointed to test applicants for motor drivers’ licenses in place of Mr. A. New. who had left the district. In response to the Stratford Borough Council’s request it was resolved to place a subscription list in the board’s office for the Lance V. Gibson memorial fund. The treasurer reported that the revenue for August amounted to £B7 9s 4r, being rates £27 19s lOd, rents £44 12s, general £7 17s (kl, cemetery £7. NORMANBY TOWN BOARD. COMMISSIONERS NOMINATED. None of the retiring 'members of the Normanby Town Board are seeking reelection, and the following have been nominated for the five seats: Messrs. Charles Coxhead. Thomas Evans, Anton Hurliman, Edwin George Harrison, Ernest James Mcßeth, and Ernest Thomas Peach. A poll will be taken on September 17. < PERSONAL ITEMS. During the absence of Constable and Mrs. Pidgeon on holiday, Constable Shirley, New-Plymouth, is in charge of the Normanby police station. As his was the only nomination for the position of Normauby's representative on the South Taranaki Electric Power Board, Mr. D. J. Hughes has been declared elected.
