■' FUNDS OF’NAVY LEAGUE.
A'PPLICATIQN-'XP BE MADE. The Wellington branch of, the Navy League approved a suggestion /hat the New Zealand branch should conduct an art union in aid of its funds, but there was some difference of opinion before the motion was passed. The secretary, Mr. R. Darroch, said he thought that in view of the state of the league’s finances the New. Zealand branch' might have an art union. , If it was organised the same as had been done by other bodies there should be a profit of about £17.000 to be shared. ’ 1 \ < Mr. A. Walker said he was opposed to the idea. The country -was in a bad way if the Navy League had to resort to an art union to help its funds. s The chairman, Mr.-W. Terry: Well, is it not? r / Mrs. Darling said she supported the suggestion. Most people, Who bought a ticket in an art union did so mainly with the intention of'supporting'the object for -which itL'yasybeingrnonducted. An art union was certainly jnore dignified than a. jumble sale arid, few people objected to jumble sales. .
