GENERAL ITEMS. A pleasant social evening was held in the parish hall on Tuesday evening under the auspices of the Kaponga Bowling Club. The early part of the evening was devoted to a euchre tournament, in which 36 players participated under the supervision of Mr. E. W. Blackwell. After a play-off with Mrs. J. G. Lewis, Mrs. J. A. Dawson won the ladies’ prize. The men’s prize was won by Mr. C. Thurston,. who lost only one game. Supper was provided by members of the croquet club. After supper a good number took part in the ping pong, which held sway for an hour and a half. The president, Mr. A. V. Tait, presented a pair of bowls in a leather case won by Mr. J. H. Tyack in the championship and handicap singles, which he had won for the second year in sueecssio n. In a few days the local troops of Boy Scouts and Cubs will hold their first birthday. A display of the work undertaken by them during the past 12 months will be given. Mr. S. Wells resumed duty at the post office on Thursday after spending his annual leave in Wellington and the South Island. Mr. and Mrs. S. C. Knight are visiting Auckland. They are expected home on Thursday. Mr. C. Brewer, jun., is spending a fortnight’s holiday with relatives at Paraparaumu.
