NEW PLYMOUTH IMPORTS

FALL IN LAST EIGHT MONTHS. ■SMALL DROP IN EXCISE REVENUE. A decrease of £2918 14s 4d was shown in the Customs duty collected at the port of New Plymouth during August compared with the corresponding period last year. The total revenue from direct shipments in the two months was £ll,077 8s Id anli £Bl5B 13s 9d respectively. Since the beginning of the year three of the months, January, March and June, have shown increases. Reduced overseas shipping, compared with the same periods last year, has, however, resulted in a fall this year in the other five months. For the first eight months of this year there is a decrease of £4440 13s 7d compared with the same period last year. Details for the month are:—■

Excise duty on beer totalled £144 17s lid last month, .compared with £156 10s Id in August, 1929,"'a decrease of £ll 12s 2d. The figures for the collection of excise duty for the first eight months, however, show an increase of £295 10s lid compared with the corresponding period of 1929. No duty was collected in May, 1929.
