EGG-LAYING COMPETITION

TARANAKI COMPETITIONS. TWENTY-FIRST WEEK’S RESULTS. The following are the results of the third Taranaki egg-laying competition up to the week ending August 27: WHITE LEGHORNS.

GENERAL ITEMS. A demonstration of the destruction of ragwort by the sodium chlorate method will be given at Matapu on Wednesday next at 11 a.m. by an officer of the Department of Agriculture. All interested are invited to meet at the Duthie Hoad railway station. OTAKEHO NEWS. PERSONAL AND SOCIAL. Mr. W. Madgwick and Mr. E. Ansford (Thames) have been visiting friends in the district, Mr. B. Crozier has returned after spending a few days in Auckland. Mrs. J. H. Thatcher (Arapuni) is the guest of Mrs. E. R. Putt. Mr. J. Campbell, senior, has been indisposed. Mr. C. Fergus has been off duty for a few days owing to a fall at the factory. Mrs. McCullum (Opunake) is the •guest of Miss White. There was a record-attendance at the euchre party on Tuesday night, when 14 tables were occupied. Great credit was due to Miss White and Mrs. Julian. The prizes went to Miss B. McCullum * (first), Miss M. Symes (second), Mr. A. Surgenor (first), and Mr. B. Tasker (second). The lucky prizes were won by .Miss B. Adams and Mr. Guy Putt.
