CLUB PILOTS’ EXAMINATION

ANNUAL COURSE OF INSTRUCTION.

By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Candidates for commissions in the New Zealand Air Force which are being allotted to club-trained pilots will be examined as to their knowledge of aircraft and engines and air regulations and will have to write an essay upon some set topic. The examination will be written. The first paper, for which two hours will be allowed, will demand an elementary knowledge of the laws of resistance of air, the functions of different parts of machines and of their control, with particular application to light aeroplanes, and the elementary principles of rigging. A general elementary knowledge of internal combustion engines will be required and candidates will be expected to know the causes of faulty running of engines. The second paper will deal entirely with air traffic rules and the essay will be of not more than 500 words upon some general aviation topic, a choice of three, subjects being given. Candidates must be over 18 and under 30 years of age, have gained their A flying licenses, and have -matriculated. Those who are successful in the examination, should they pass the Air Force medical tests, will be granted commissions in the New Zealand Air Force as pilot-officers on probatiqn. At the conclusion of an annual course of instruction probationary pilot officers who obtain satisfactory reports will be confirmed in their rank. Pilot.who .fail to pass' the..prescribed examination... for promotion, to flyingofficers within two years from the date of appointment will normally be required to resign their commissions as officers. They will carry out an annual course of instruction for approximately two weeks between "January and April at Wigram aerodrome. Pilot-officers will receive Bs' a day with 10s a day flying pay in addition to free rations and quarters during the courses. Uniform grants and allowances will also be made.
