Mr. T. Forsyth, who has been chairman of the Wellington. Education Board for the past twelve years, has been elected chair* man for a further two years, states a Press Association message.
Lord Birkenhead, says a wireless message, had a quiet night on Tuesday and his strength w<is well maintained, but he was then free from fever.
A wireless message says that on Tuesday the Duke of Northumberland .epent a fair night. The slight improvement was maintained. Blood transfusion was no longer considered advisable. Mr. J. Herbert, Kakaramea, has received notice of transfer 1 from the Hawera branch ’of the Farmers’ Co-opera-. five Organisation Society to the New Plymouth branch.

Subject to the approval of the Education Department the Taranaki Education Board yesterday appointed Mr. Duncan Mackay, M.A., of the Ohura District High School, to the position of senior instructor m agriculture and supervision of- manual and technical instruction in succession to Mr. R G. Ridling, who has been promoted to the position of inspector with headquarters at Wellington. There were 12 applications from all over the Dominion for the position. -
Mr F. W/O. Smith, chairman of the Nelson Education Board for the past sixteen'years, who was succeeded on Monday last by the Hon. W. H. Mclntyre as cnaar-' man of the board, has received the following message from the Minister of Education, the Hon. H. Atmore:—‘l have read the report in the local newspaper of the altered position due to the change in the chairmanship of the Nelson Education Board and I think it is a fitting time to express my appreciation of the very cordial relations in all our dealings in educational matters during the time that I have had the honour of holding the Portfolio of Education. I feel sure the general public will recognise the services you have rendered to the great cause of education, and ’I am confident you will give many more years of honourable service for which your long experience and active interest so .fit you. Changes must take place in administrative matters and it may be that in those changes of the near future an opportunity will offer for you to place your experience, ability and singleness of purpose at the (is’posal of the people in a more honourable and responsible capacity.” ",
