At the opening of the miners’ ference Mr. Richards, acting-president, declared that the conference offered n,o objection to the general council of the trades unions investigating the possibilities of industrial and economic Relations with thfe Dominions in order to enable Britons to form their judgment on schemes for the mutual exchange of commodities independent of tariffs, but the mining ndustry was not interested owing to the overwhelming -proportion of coal exported to Europe. Uord Beaverbrook’s scheme, however, would seriously affect the miners in the export districts and would involve great unemployment.
