MOTOR OFFENDER CHASED
GIRL CYCLIST SERIOUSLY HURT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Gisborne, Aug. 13. Run to earth by a motorist- after a chase of 10 miles on. July 15 a lorry driver, Peta Mua, or Peter Moore, aged 33, of Tolaga Bay, was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence by Mr. Harper, S.M., in the Police Court yesterday on a charge that he negligently drove a lorry, thereby causing injury to Xoeline Kidd, aged nine. The evidence showed that, accused, wi.c pleaded guilty, was driving a lorry with three Maori companions from Gisborne towards Tolaga when he kn -eked the girl oil hei bicycle near an intersection. Accused was travelling on the wrong side of the road at a speed of over 30 miles an hour, according to the estimate of witnesses, and did not stop after me accident.
A motorist, Leslie A. Potts, saw the accident and gave chase and overtook act sed' about 12 miles from Gisborne. J- ts took the names of accused and his eomj aliens and inspected the lorry, noting certain damage before allowing it to proceed. Detective McLeod stated that accused strenuously denied knowledge of any accident when interv.cw.d tb’-ee days later. The girl sufi'ered a fractured jaw and arm and severe bruises and, according to n cu.eal evidence, there is a likelihood of permanent disability.
