The Conciliation and Arbitration Bill which was amended almost out of recognition by the Senate, was passed by that chamber to-day. The Labour members declared the Bill was now not worth twopence. Senator Lawson, an Opposition member, said the giving of arbitral powers to conciliation commissioners as provided in the Bill was a fundamental error which would impede the arbitration machinery.
