METHODIST BAZAAR SUCCESS. Favoured by a fine day the Ladies’ Guild of the Okato Methodist Church held a very successful bazaar on Thursday afternoon and evening. There was a splendid band of workers in charge, the Rev. W. Wilson also working especially hard to ensure the function’s success. The attendance was large and the financial result most satisfactory. The following were the stallholders: Drapery, Mesdames Wilson and Jackson; produce, Misses N. Sharp and I). Moorby and Mr. B. Brown;- sweets, Mrs. and Miss F. McCabe; fish pond, Miss Henderson; tea rooms, Mesdames Jen-

kins and AV. G. Brown and Misses E. Jenkins and K. Wadsworth; jumble, Mrs. Sears; flowers, Misses Wadsworth and Tapp. In the cookery competition the awards were: Iced sponge, Miss J. Smith 1, Mrs. L. Wadsworth 2; plain sponge, Mrs. C. Putt 1, Mrs. L. Wooldridge 2. Mrs. 8. B. Hall donated four beautiful prizes for the competition. The other competition-winners were: Cork spearing, Mrs. Maxwell and Mr. Lancaster; lazy stick, Mr. T. Goodwin; nail-driving, Miss Nora Paul ami Mr. E. Sears; quoits, Mr. E. Julian. Items were given by Miss Tapp (pianoforte solo), Mrs. and Miss Dowling and Mr. W. E. Willis (songs), Alias L. Cobham (recitations). Owing to decreased attendance, the swimming club’ card evenings concluded

on Alonday. Aliss Sharp gained the ladies, prize, and Air. E. Doherty the men’s. At the football match between Okato and Tataraimaka on Friday, Okato won by 15 points to 10. The losers put up a plucky fight. Mr. H, V. Roberts waa referee. A start has been made to metal the new deviation at Stony River, the crushing plant having commenced operations last week. The snow which fell early in the week and the heavy frosts which followed cut back pastures very severely. The grass is .shorter than at any time during the winter. This, with numbers of newlycalved cows on the various farms,* will cause many farmers considerable anxiety., Over 300 calves were removed by the carriers on the first collecting day last week.
