An enjoyable social evening was held in the Kirihau Hall on Friday? While the weather was again responsible for a disappointingly small attendance,''those present spent a pleasant time, games,' dances' and items, causing the hours\ to pass all. too quickly; Supper, prepared-by the hall committee, was served, and dancing continued until a’late hour. ’-'s. There was an excited meeting in a Kirihau residence during a recent even-' ing, where a novelty in. the way of contests had been, arranged. One man had contracted to dispose of two dozen' cream puffs inside half an hour, and his friends had gathered to'Witness? At one time it seemed'likely that at least a dozen puffs would»be left'for the aitdi-. ence, but, with the aid of a drink of tea, a short walk, and grim'determination, the whole two dozen were safely consumed' with three arid a half minutes to spare. . ' - ■ ' ’ ’?. . ? •;. ■ Mr. A. M. Wilson returned from Auckland on’ Sunday evening, -having made the trip there during the week-end in order’to be present at the?third. Test? On Sunday eyeriing there was a heavy hail stormy 'and on Monday morning the ground was covered with hail stones to a'sufficient depth to give the. impression that the district had been visited by a light snowfall. Little damage was done to young plants, although stock is suffering Only recently, there was a fall of three inches of rani in one . night, and- the rainfall- for the month should be well above the average. • Mrs. H. Looney is indisposed. Mr. W. M. Dill-Macky, agriculture instructor for the Taranaki- Education Board,. recently visited: the Koru and Kirihau schools. . .■ - ’
