ROWING CLUB BALL
SUCCESSFUL CLIFTON FUNCTION. The Clifton Rowing Club’s annual ball was held last night in the Clifton Hall, Waitara, when there was a large attendance from a far-flung district. Combined with the ball was a prize-giving ceremony, the president of the club, Mr. VV. R. Johns, presenting the numerous trophies and cups won during the past ‘season. With this added impetus, the ball was a fitting finale to a successful season, and the way in which the function was carried out was a tribute to the organising ability of the committee. The hall was decorated gaily with streamers in the club colours, blue and white, which were spread evenly below the ceiling in triangles, giving a pleasing modernistic effect to the hall. Coloured lights skilfully placed played an important part in the scheme of colour. Festoons of greenery lined the walls, on which hung the sculls, like great crosses of St. George. The supper room, the store room for the slender rowing shells, which were suspended above tile tables, was decorated tastefully with the same blue and white colour scheme which was the motif of the hall. The following is the list of prizewinners: — C.R.C. trophy, 1030: 0. A. Keith (str.), F, Leach, T. Ewens, T. Stockman, J. E. George (eox). Mr. M. Fahy’s trophy: T. G. Fowler (str.), A. Rowe, T.
