Tlie New Plymouth Beautifying Society will resume work on Baines’ Terrace to-morrow. Mr. W. T. Hookham’s car was considerably damaged in a collision on Carrington Road, New Plymouth, last night with a lorry used by a borough contractor at night. The side of the ear was torn out but no one was injured. The lorry was stationary at the time. Success attended the euchre party held in the New Plymouth Agricultural Hall on Wednesday evening by the New Plymouth branch of the Labour Party. The aggregate prize, an open order for £-2 10s, was won by Mr. J. George. Mrs. Bolton won the ladies’ first prize, a dinner wagon, donated by Mr. Beard. Mesdames Young and Courtney shared the second prize. The men’s first prize, ft seagrass chair, donated by Messrs Perreau and Wilson, was won by Mr. G. Walker, and the second by Mr. 8. Jackson. Mrs. Sutherland won the lucky prize. On view in the window of Mr. J. Bennett’s shop, New Plymouth, at the „ present time is a case of jewellery said to be over 100 years old. It is a most handsome example of the goldsmith’s art, consisting of a bracelet, brooch and ear-rings, in which are set, in most even form, and corresponding in size and shade, the most beautiful turquoise stones, surrounded by pearls. The jewels are the property of a New Plymouth lady. The sum of £5O was realised by a ‘bazaar held in tlie Y.W.C.A. Hall, New Plymouth, yesterday, in aid of Y.n .L.A. world fellowship and local branch funds. The fancy stall conducted by-Miss P. Bennett and the Girl Citizens won first prize for decorations, and those of Miss Beal and the High School Girl Citizens tied for second. Mrs. A. Alexander (president) and Miss Pym (secretary), of the New Plymouth Y.W.C.A., were in charge. The stallholders were: Flowers, Mrs. Ayckbourn; children’s apparel (“Mary, Quite Contrary” stall), Misses Norma Beal and Barnard; sweets, Mrs. Menzies; handkerchiefs and toilet articles, Miss Pym; groceries, High School Girl Citizens; cakes, Mrs. Nisbet Smith and Mrs. Clark; produce, Mrs. 'Blackley; fancy, Miss P. Bennett and Girl Citizens; ll:]d parcels, Miss Harrison; afternoon tea, Mothers’ Club. “A bottle of mammiiis paint goes very much further than you claim for it and I wish to ■ congratulate you on your remedy,” writes a dairy farmer , to ; S.
