BRITISH ENTRANTS LEADING VIOLENT WIND AND RAIN British Official Wireless. Rec. 5.5 p.m. Rugby, July 21, . Extremely difficult flying weather, with violent rainstorms, gusts of wind and low visibility was encountered by competitors in the round Europe air contest who flew to-day the stages from. Calais to Bristol and London, and oacK across the Channel. 'AH seven British entrants, including Lady Bailey and Miss Spooner, were well up in the first flight. The competitors had been weather-bound at Calais nearly all the morning. Alan Butler in his Gipsy Moth was. the first to reach Bristol. He said he had seldom experienced more violent bumping. After him came Thorn, Carberry, Miss Spooner, Andrews, Lady Bailey and Broad. French and German machine® followed.
Butler again led the departures for Heston Air Park, London, and was the first away for Saint Ingelvert, being closely followed by Folk (Germany) and Miss Spooner).
