TIMBER TRADE PROTECTION. By Telegraph.-- Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. When the House of Representatives met to-day, the Hon. S. G. Smith, Minister of Labour, gave notice of his intention to introduce the Rent Restriction Bill. Notice was given by Ministers of intention to move for the appointment of select committees for the session. Replying to a question submitted by Mr. H. E. Holland, Leader of the Labour Party, in association with Messrs. J. O’Brien and G. C. Black, the Prime Minister said the matter of protecting the timber industry had been receiving the attention of the Government and it was hoped shortly to make an intimation to the House on the subject. Mr. Holland stated that the position of the industry in the Karamea district was serious. Many mills were closing, down and others were working at only a portion of their capacity.
