WEDDING

HOLT-GORDON-CLASSFORD. The marriage -took place at All Saints’ Church, Palmerston North, on Thursday, July 3, of Mildred Swainson, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs; J. Gordon-Glassford, Milson’s Line, Feild-. ing, to Frederick Glyndon, second son of Mr. and Mrs. R. Holt, Cameron Road, Napier. .- 1 The Rev. A. J. -Nelld performed. the ceremony, and ;Mi'i i.Holmes-Runnicles was organist. • ■ ■' ■; ■ The bride, who was given away by her father, wore ft long frock of cream satin, with over-skirt,. medici collar and sleeve ruffles of beautiful old lace which had been anonymously sent to her. .The hand-worked veil was lent by a friend of the bride’s family,’and "was held in place by a double coronet of tiny buds of orange blossom.' Her bouquet was of frecsias, Iceland poppies, narcissi and maidenhair fern, the flowers shading from cream to gold, and she wore gold brocade shoes and cream stockings. Miss Mary Gordbh-Glassford was the only bridesmaid arid Mr. Harold .Holt was best man. ’ ■ ■ The bridesmaid’s drefes was of goldenbrown crepe-de-chihe trimmed with maize-coloured piping 1 , and her hat was of brown felt, with a gold buckle in front. She wore bronze shoes and gold-en-brown stockings, and carried a loose posy of orange marigolds. Iceland poppies, yellow berries and maidenhair fern, tied with bronze ribbon. After the ceremony the immediate relations of the bride and bridegroom, and several intimate friends were received by the bride’s,.,parents in the lounge of the Grand/.where the wedding breakfast was held. Mrs. Gordon-Glassford wore a smart

dove-grey ensemble with a violet felt hat, and her posy was of violets. Mis. R. Holt, mother of the bridegroom, wore a black ensemble, with grey fur culls and collar on the eoat, and a black felt hat. She carried a bouquet of violets and freesias. After the wedding breakfast Mr. and Mrs. Holt left for Auckland, the bride travelling in a navy crepe-de-chine dress trimmed with fawn, navy and fawn hat, navy epat with brown fur cuffs and collar. NEW—CLEMOES. The marriage was celebrated in St. Matthew’s Church, Auckland, on July 16, of Miss Bertha Clemoes, only daughter of Mrs. C. and the late Mr. W. G. Clemoes, formerly of Hawera, to Mr. Albert New, eldest son of Mr. A. New and the late Mrs. New, also formerly of Hawera, Taranaki. The Rev. Canon Grant Cowen performed the ceremony and the wedding music was played by Mr. J. H. Philpott. The bride wore a frock of shell pink , chenille and georgette. The Early Victorian bodice, closefitting, v-as of chenille, and the skirt of georgette, which was made of six full petals which fell almost to the ground at the bgck. Each petal was bordered with silk net and'edged with satin ribbon. The sleeves, which were close-fit-ting to the elbow, ending in a full georgette bell, were finished with the same edging to harmonise. A veil and train of paf< pink net.were held in place with orange blossoms and she carried a bouquet of pale pink sweet peas, carnations and maidenhair fern. The chief bridesmaid was Miss K. New,' sister of the bridegroom, and with her were Miss Joyce Codd, cousin of the bride, and Miss Thelma Newbold. They wore respectively frocks of lemon, powder blue and lilac georgette, made with long, closefitting bodices and long . peaked skirts ed,ged with silk tulle, their headdresses being in tulle to match their frocks. They carried bouquets to tone. The little flower girl, Joan Cooke, wore a frock of rainbow tulle. Mr. D. Bromfield was best man and the groomsmen Messrs. James and Whitaker Bickerton. Mr. P. S. Newbold gave the bride away. A reception was held later at the Masonic Hall, Eden Terrace, where the guests were welcomed by the bride’s mother, who wore a black georgette frock, and black satin coat, with hat to tone. She carried a posie of violets and maidenhair fern.
