STOCK ON THE STREETS I DANGERS AT NIGHT TIME. W—- — WITHOUT LIGHTS.
The Eltham 'Borough Council met last night when the work of the month was reviewed. The overseer stated:—Metal patching was done on Conway Road and
Derby Street. Water-tabling was carried out on the Mangawiiero ■ Road, Castle Street, -Clifford Road, Mountain Road north, Bridge Street' west, London Street, Mill Street and King Edward Street. To procure turf for filling purposes the grass sides on Cornwall •Street and Bath Street were ploughed up. The water and drainage service still remains satisfactory. Minor holdups in private drains were promptly attended to. Approximately 200 cubic yards of filling !was i carted to the . depression in ' the hockey..ground,' Tauipata '.Park.. A further top-dressing with black • soil before grass is sown will add to the improvement. The traffic inspector reported: —Three notices were given to- have hedges trimmed, four to have leaking verandahs and gutter spouting repaired, and one to have the main air vent on sewerage connection repaired. Three permits were issued for new buildings. Drivers licenses issued for the month numbered 200. Six head of stock, were impounded. Stock has been allowed- oh the' streets at night. If impounding does not stop this dangerous practice - other/measures, will be taken. .
The reserves committee reported:— The ; sum of £lO has been received in connection with unemployed and it is recommended that this amount bo subsidised £ for £ and portion: of the total be. used in painting, the front ■ of the grandstand and pheasants’ pen at Taumata Park. In connection with sports bodies requiring Tauihata Park for the season’s play it is recommended’ it be laid down that applications from sports bodies concerned must be made in writing in order to make proper arrangements to meet events. Certain trees at the cemetery interfere with the power lines and. the caretaker 'has been instructed to satisfactorily cut them back.
The Town Hall committee recommended that on the occasion of the blind boys’ orchestra visit from the Auckland Institute for the Blind on October 6, use of the Town Hall be granted free of "charge.
It was stated that a new generator had. been purchased and was now on the job. The alterations to the box and the erection of the talkie plant were progressing satisfactorily and the talkies; would open next week.
The (finance committee recommended that £1239 3e 9d be passed for payment and that £1 10s 9d, exceeding the unauthorised expenditure fer 1929-30 be refunded by the individual members: that the fees for petrol pumps be set out as follows: 1 to 3, £2 10s "each; 4 to o, £2 each; 6 and more. £1 10s each.
The receipts for Jtuie‘were £lll3 18s 6d. The expenditure was £1027 Is Od. The inspector has bech instructed to prosecute offenders in connection with the riding of bicycles on the roads at night without lights and in eases of wandering stock,.
Notice has been received from J. C. Hutton, Ltd., of their intention to increase the killing charges under the deed of delegation.
