RAILWAYMEN MEET FR EMI ER.

Wellington, Last Night.
A deputation from railwaymen’s organisations waited on the Prime Minister, the Hon. G. W. Forbes, and the Minister of Railways, the Hon. W. A. Veitch, to-day asking that steps be taken to reinstate the men dismissed from the workshops and prevent further dismissals. ■ • ,
lil reply the Primo Minister said the’ dismissals were inevitable owing to the state of the country’s finances affecting all services. Illustrating the railways finance he said the Minister had already asked him for nearly £2,000,000 to carry 7 on. Representations were made along the lines of those to the Minister of Railways earlier in the week. With regret both tho Prime Minister and the Minister of Railways told the deputation the dismissals would have to stand.
