STATEMENT BY DR. ADAMS TALK SAID TO BE CONFIDENTIAL PUBLICATION CREATES A STIR. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, July 17. As Dr. Adams has stated that his remarks at Wanganui concerning rougl Rugby at Timaru, which have caused such a stir, were confidential, and that he expressly asked that they should not be published, it is necessary to state that the report emanating from Taihape and published in some papers a« from the Press Association was not a Press Association message at all.

Wanganui, Last Night.
With reference to the Press Association message in which Mr. Dean states Dr. Adams informed him that he (Dr. Adams) had informed representatives of the Wanganui papers that his remarks were not for publication and that he made it clear to the representatives of the Wanganui press present that his remarks were confidential but they; had appeared in the Auckland Press’ 'via Taihape through an outside reporter who, had -been sitting at the baek : of the hall, as far as can be ascertained no reporters in Wanganui, one being absent on holiday, knew of any- such request as alleged. Only one- Wanganui reporter was present at the' time, and his published remarks of Dr. Adorns are: “He was telling those present so that they in Wanganui would know just what did happen at Timaru.” Dr. Adams, however, did tell a Herald reporter yesterday morning over the ’phone that he did not intend his remarks for publication. WEAKNESS IN CONTROL CHARGED. Christchurch, July 17. The allegation that a rough type of Rugby football has been developed in New Zealand was denied this morning by men who have been prominently 'connected with the game for many years. At the same time a charge of weakness was made against referees in allowing players to indulge far too much In illegal tactics.
