Maunw.nui, which will carry on the Australia-New • Zealand service in conjunction with the Ulimaroa and the trans-Pacifie liners Aorangi, Niagara, .Makura and Tahiti, left Sydney Friday for Auckland. Left Auckland yesterday for Sydney via Wellington. Leaves Sydney for Wellington and Auckland on July 25 and Auckland for Sydney on August 1. The Karepo, which was due at New Plymouth last night, is bar-bound at Westport with 600 tons and may now arrive early to-morrow morning. Later she sails for Auckland. (U.S.S. Co.). The Kaponga, with 40 tons of poles and 500 tons of coal, is due at New Plymouth on Sunday and later proceeds to Auckland. (U.S.S. Co.). The Kanna loaded at Dunedin on Tuesday and sails via usual ports and Nelson for New Plymouth and Westport. She is due at New Plymouth on Monday. (U.S.S. Co.)

The Himatangi proceeded to Timaru, where she loads to-morrow, sailing via .Lytteilou, Wellington and Wanganui for New Plymouth, where she is due on. July 23. Later she proceeds to Tarakolie and Foxton.. (Hooker Bros.). The Progress loads at Dunedin tomorrow, sailing via Timaru, Lyttelton and Wellington for New Plymouth, where she is due on July 24. She proceeds to Port Waikato. (.Hookei’ Bros.) The Hauturu, with 180 tons for New Plymouth, left Onehunga yesterday afternoon but there was some doubt as to whether the bar was workable. The vessel was to attempt to cross at 10 o’clock last night in which ease she would arrive at New Plymouth about 3 o’clock this afternoon. (Northern Co.). The John loads at Dunedin on Monday and sails via Timaru, Lyttelton and Wellington for New Plymouth, where she is due on July 26. She proceeds to Port Waikato. (Hooker Bros.). WOOLGAR IN PORT. The Melbourne Shipping Company’s vessel Woolgar is discharging 275,000 ft. of Australian hardwood at New Plymouth to the agency of Holm and Co. The vessel arrived yesterday morning and carries a cargo of Kauri timber from- Auckland for Melbourne. She is scheduled to leave New Plymouth on Friday morning for Newcastle. WAIHEMO AT DAYLIGHT. The Union Company’s vessel Waihemo ia duo at New Plymouth at daylight tl/.s morning to discharge 900 tons of Pacific Coast cargo. She is due to leave New Plymouth on Saturday for Westport and Auckland, from which latter port she sails for Vancouver. The vessel then loads along the Pacific Slope for New Zealand ports, including New Plymouth, in November, being due at New Zealand in December. GABRIELLA NEXT WEEK. The Union Company’s inter-colonial steamer Gabriella is due at New Plymouth from Sydney direct on Thursday with 175 tons of Australian cargo. The vessel leaves Sydney to-morrow. WESTMORELAND COMPLETING. The Federal steamer Westmoreland left Auckland on Tuesday morning for Gisborne, Napier, and Wellington to complete her loading. She is due at Wellington on Sunday, and is scheduled to clear port finally on July 22 for London, Avon—outh, Liverpool, Manchester and Glasgow, via the Panama Canal. The vessel carries 12,500 freight carcases of meat, 8311 boxes of butter and 7134 crates of cheese loaded at New Plymouth during the last week in June. ASTORIA ON MONDAY.

The Danish motor-ship Astoria, which arrived at Auckland from Nauru Island on Monday evening, berthed to unload 4500 tons of phosphates for Auckland, the remainder of the phosphate cargo being for New Plymouth. It was formerly intended to unload all the cargo at Auckland. The vessel sailed from Nauru Island on July 4 and experienced freshening westerly winds which increased to gale force on July 9, accompanied by very high seas, necessitating the vessel having to be hove-to for 28 hours. On Friday the storm had passed, but a very high westerday swell continued until the vessel reached the shelter of the land near North Cape on Monday morning. Cargo operations are expected to be completed to-morrow, morning and at midday the vessel is to be removed to Western wharf to replenish her oil-fuel bunkers before she proceeds to New Plymouth, where slie is due on Monday, ' The Astoria is a twin-screw vessel of 4454 tons and Is fitted with Diesel engines, with a total of 3600 h.p. She is capable of a speed of knots in fine weather. Since she was built four years ago she lias been constantly employed and has only made one visit to Europe since. Most of the time she was engaged carrying lumber from America and Canada to Japan and China. Since December she has been under charter to the British Phosphate Commission, and this is her third phosphate cargo. Captain F. Heistcrberg is in command of the vessel, and Newton King, Ltd., are the New Plymouth agents.

PORT PIRIE AT AUCKLAND.

The Commonwealth and Dominion Lino steamer Port Pirle arrived at Auckland from New Plymouth yesterday. She will continue loading for Montevideo and London. The vessel will complete her cargo at Napier and Wellington. She carries 10,500 boxes of butter, 6555 crates of cheese and 8000 Freight carcases, of meat from. New Plymouth.

ULIMAROA’S ITINERARY. The Huddart-Parker steamer Ulimaroa reached Sydney from Auckland at 7 o’clock on Tuesday morning. The vessel is to sail on Friday and she is due at Wellington next Tuesday. The following Friday she will leave Wellington for Sydney, The company advises that ' in order to fit in with the Union Company’s new inter-colonial time-table the Ulimaroa will make two trips in succession from Sydney to Wellington before she returns to Auckland. On her next trip to Auckland she will - leave Sydney on August 15 and reach Auckla 1 on August 19. On August 22 she will leave Auckland on the return trip to Sydney. Thereafter the vessel will make alternate trips between Sydney and Wellington and Sydney and Auckland as in the past. A LUXURIOUS LINER. A new passenger liner costing between 6,000,000 and 7,000,000 dollars is contemplated by the Los Angeles Steamship Company to replace the City of Honolulu in its Los Angeles-Hawaii service. The City of Honolulu caught fire while lying at her berth at Honolulu on May 25, and was sunk to prevent her large cargo of oil from exploding. The company, after having received detailed reports of naval architects and salvage experts, have decided not to recondition the City of Honolulu, but to apply her insurance toward the construction of a new liner. In the meantime arrangements are being made to secure a suitable ship to substitute for the City of Honolulu, in order to maintain the passenger timetable between Los Angeles and Hawaii.
