A SIGN OF PROGRESS.
An indication of the progress of the town of Stratford and the Central Taranaki district may be found in the decision of the Public Trustee to raise .th© status of the Stratford Public Trust Office. In future it will be controlled by a District Public Trustee, which should mean prompter service for the public. Hitherto certain matters have necessitated reference to other offices, but with the enlarged scope of the Stratford office and the appointment qf the necessary legal and other experts to its staff practically all matters eave those necessitating a ruling by the Public Trustee himself, or which must under existing legislation be referred to him, will be dealt with by the District Public Trustee at Stratford. The first to hold that office is an official well-known to the public of Central Taranaki. Mr. J. C. Robins has been in charge of the Stratford Public Trust Office for a fairly long period, and there is general satisfaction in the knowledge that he is promoted to the higher position that has been created there. The growth of the work of the Public Trust Office throughout the Dominion has been very remarkable and is a fine tribute to the service it renders. Decentralisation of control has been a cardinal principle of the organisation during the past few years, and that this has been justified is evidenced by the increase in business entrusted to it. North, South and Central Taranaki will each be served in future by a District Trustee and an adequate staff. Not only is this a token of progress in the activities of the Public Trust Office but it demonstrates further the development that is quietly proceeding in this province, a development in which Stratford and district are sharing to the full.
