CONFERENCE OF ENGINEERS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, July 14*. The annual conference of power supply engineers opened to-day, Mr. H. F; Toogood presiding. The executive’s report referred to the preparation of new regulations which, will be finalised after the conference. The use of instantaneous water heaters had been the subject of reports to the department, but no action had been taken to protect the supply authorities. The application of electricity to agriculture was being investigated by the Research Department and very valuable results were, expected. A discussion would be held on the position of the smaller boards, who were responsible for much of the extension of power to the country districts. Mr, Toogood referred to the extra, charge of £2 per k.v.a. a year on the first 200 as a severe handicap. Answering objections to the removal, which would cost the Public Works De* partment £15,000 a year, he said he knew the department could not afford that, but suggested that in view of the large profits of the authorities a review of the charges, to,.them might be considered.
