Graham Findlay, Miranda, Auckland district, who has been visiting her aunt, Mrs. C. M. Hill, New Plymouth, and other relatives in Taranaki, has returned home. 48 48 * * Airs. L. A. Brown, “Pukemarama,” entertained the members and friends .of th© New Plymouth Presbyterian Ladies’ Sewing Circle at her home yesterday afternoon. Musical items were given by Miss Stenhouse and Airs. J. C. Alax-w-ell, and recitations by Aliss Gaustad. A collection amounting to £4 2s fid was taken up in aid of the new church fund.
ENGAGEMENTS. The engagement is announced of Nona Gwendoline, only daughter of Air. and Airs. A. K. Lasii, Wajtara, to Eric A., elder son of Air. and Airs. H. J. Lash, New Plymouth. ACTIVITIES OF VICTORIA LEAGUE NEW PLYMOUTH COMMITTEE. The executive committee of the New Plvmouth Victoria League met on Alonday, with Aire. C. H. Burgess presiding. The book committee reported having packed and.forwarded seven cases and a parcel containing 475 books, magazines and papers to the backblocks. Several letters of appreciation were received from recipients of books. The house committee reported three most successful floral teas had been held during the month. Alusical teas would be held on July 11 and 25, when the hostesses will' be the Kawaroa and Fitzroy Croquet Clu'bs. An enjoyable flag bridge afternoon had been given by Alasdames Reid and Mac Diarmid on June 18, when almost 100 people were present. On August 4 there would be the third “at home” of the season, when members and friends who wished could bring gifts towards Daffodil Day. The needlecraft circle were preparing for Daffodil Day, which ’would be held on August 15. The members forwarded a box of clothing, books and papers to the district nurse at Albkau for distribution to necessitous cases. The play-reading circle gave its second “open evening” on June 19, when “A Bird in the Hand” was read. Air. R. N. Renaud will lecture on Alonday on musical appreciation, and Air. J. Leggat will lecture on July 28 on the rise of ,the English novel. Nineteen new members were elected during the month. Airs. Ewart will act as deputy-president during this month.
