Tiie Progress loaded at Dunedin on Friday, sailing via Timaru, Lyttelton and Wellington for New Plymouth, where she is due to-morrow. Later she sails for Port Waikato. (Hooker Bros.) The Kaimanawa" loaded at Westport on Monday and sails for New Plymouth and Auckland. The vessel will have 500 tons for New Plymouth, where, she is due at daylight to-morrow. (U.S.S. Co.) The Totara loaded at Lyttelton on Saturday for Wellington and New Plymouth, where she arrived yesterday morning. She returned to Wellington and Lyttelton, reloading at Lyttelton on Friday for Wellington and: New Plymouth. She is due at New Plymouth about July 15. (U.S.S. Co.) The Karepo left Dunedin on Saturday and loaded at Timaru on Monday, being duo at Wellington to-day, Nelson tomorrow and New Plymouth on Friday. The vessel then proceeds to Westport, where she loads 600 tons next week for New Plymouth before sailing for Auckland. (U.S.S. Co.). The Hauturu arrived at New Plymouth yesterday morning with 130 tons and sailed yesterday morning for Onehunga. The vessel is due again from Onehunga to-morrow. (Northern Co.) The Titoki, which nas been discharging 442 tons of coal from Greymouth at New Plymouth returned yesterday to the southern port. (Cock and Co.), FERNDALE LEAVES PORT. After loading 15,000 freight carcases of moat and 6090 crates of cheese at New Plymouth for English markets, the steamer Ferndale sailed yesterday morning for Bluff, Lyttelton, Wellington, Napier, Waikokopu and Auckland to complete her loading. The vessel is scheduled to sail finally from Auckland on July 29 for Genoa and London, via the Panama Canal.

WESTMORELAND AT AUCKLAND. The Federal Line steamer Westmoreland was scheduled to leave Opua yesterday and is due at Auckland early this morning. She will continue loading refrigerated and general cargo to the agency of the New Zealand Shipping Company. The vessel will sail about Friday' for Gisborne, Napier and Wellington to complete her cargo. She is to be dispatched from Wellington for London, Avoninouth, Liverpool, Manchester and Glasgow, via Panama Canal, on .July 19. The vessel carries 12,500 freight carcases of meat, 8311 boxes of butter and 7134 crates of cheese loaded at New Plymouth at the end of June.WOOLGAR AT WELLINGTON. . The Melbourne Steamship Company’s steamer Woolgar, with 275,000 feet of Australian hardwood from Bunbury for New Plymouth, arrived at Wellington yesterday from Napier to continue discharge. i PORT PIRIE LOADING. The Commonwealth and Dominion Line steamer Port Pirie was to leave Oamaru on Monday for Wanganui, New Plymouth and Auckland, in continuation of her loading itinerary. The vessel is due at Wanganui to-morrow and at Auckland on July 16. The vessel’s other loading ports are Napier and Wellington. She Is to leave Wellington for London, via Montevideo, on July 24. At New Plymouth, wl;xi.e the vessel is due on Friday, she loads 10,500 boxes of butter, 6555. crates of cheese and 8000 freight carcases of meat. ARGYLLSHIRE AT WELLINGTON. To continue discharge of her Liverpool cargo the Federal steamer Argyllshire arrived in the stream at Wellington late on Sunday night from Auckland. She is to leave again to-day for Lyttelton, Dunedin and New Plymouth to complete discharge. At New Plymouth, where she is due on July 21, she discharges 2000 tons of cargo and loads 12,000 .freight careases of meat. A MODERN STEAMER. The latest, steamer to be added to the licet of the Ellerman-Hall Line is the City of Barcelona, which embodies several interesting features with regard to her propelling machinery and auxiliary plant. She is a single-screw steamer built by Barclay, Curie and Co., Ltd., at Glasgow. Her length is 425 ft., with a beam of 68ft. and a depth of 29ft. Gin., and her gross tonnage is about 5600. Her propelling machinery comprises a four-cylinder triple-expansion engine with 23J, 40}, 50 and 6pin. diameter cylinders, with a stroke of 48 inches. Steam is supplied at a pressure of 2651 b. per sq. in., and 180 degrees super-heat, and the valve gear is-of the Beardmore-Caprotti type. The installation includes the latest type of exhapst steam turbine-driv-en generator and auxiliary electric motor propelling plant, which has been design-

cd by the Metropolitan-Vickers Electrical Company, Ltd., and is carried out on similar lines to those adopted in the City of Hong-Kong. The turbine is of the impulse Rateau type, and the auxiliary propelling motor has' an outptit of 990 b.h.p. at 77.6 revolutions, but in ordinary service the output will be about 875 brake horse-power. It is understood that the trials were exceedingly good, ..but no official, figures have yet been published. The ship’s performance will be awaited with interest. SHIPPING TELEGRAMS.
