STRATFORD WINTER SHOW. GREAT EXHIBITION ASSURED. Systematic organisatiori and good team work on the part of the president (Mr. A. J. Davey) and the committee organising the Stratford winter show has re- ! suited in a table of entries that compares favourably -with last year’s show, but which in the face of unusual circumstances prevailing at preserit must be regarded as very satisfactory. The poultry entries (529) are practically equal to the previous year’s figures, but pigeons show a decline owing to the Hastings show being held on dates very close to Stratford. A section which has declined in most of the recent shows is garden and field section, but here the figures this year are 615 compared with 301 last year. Home industries are much the same, being 352 and 350 respectively. Fancy work, art and photography entries are down, but the biggest drop is in the schools section, there being less than half the number exhibited last year. The scouts’ section (26) is again well supported. The total number of entries is 2207, compared with 2399 last year, thus ensuring a splendid exhibition, which will prove a credit to Central Taranaki. The show will be open to the public on Wednesday afternoon, but the official opening will not take place . until tho evening. The poultry show will be open to the public on Thursday afternoon. Friday will be children’s day. An essay competition is open to pupils of primary schools in Taranaki, the subject being “The Stratford Winter Show for 1930.” An advertisement giving further particulars of the show appears in an • other page of this issue.
