MARKETING BILL REJECTED
WHEAT PRICE GUARANTEE AUSTRALIAN SENATE ACTION INTENSE LOBBYING BLAMED By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. Roe. 9.50 p.m. Canberra, July 4. The Senate provided a stir to-day by rejecting the Wheat Marketing Bill at the second reading. Several opposition members voted with the Government. The Bill had aimed at a compulsory wheat pool with a guarantee of 4s a bushel, as the outcome of which the farmers had greatly increased the acreage under wheat. The .Minister for Markets, Mr. Maloney, was greatly disappointed at the rejection of the Bill which, he claimed, was due to intense lobbying by wheat merchants. Mr. Maloney said no political consequences were likely Io arise out of ilie Senate's action.
