MOUNTAIN ROAD RACE

MEETING OF THE COMMITTEE. Mr. G. Tippins was elected chairman and presided over an attendance of ten committeemen of the 'New Plymouth League Cycle Club on Thursday night. Mr. A. Gable was elected to the committee and made dress judge and number steward. It was decided to allot £1 Is to the best dressed rider, on the average, throughout the season. - The Grey Shield is to be won three times at intervals or in succession. Euchre parties r were arranged, starting early in August. October 25 was decided on for. the mountain road race date and the original distance was adhered to (100 miles). It was decided to apply f° r the New Zealand junior 100 miles road championship and North Island open road championship to be held in conjunction with the mountain road race The resignation of Mr. R. Aroa was accepted with regret, and a very hearty vote of thanks was accorded him for his valuable services. A resolution of sympathy was accorded Mr. L. Claffey in his recent bereavement. ■ A vote of thanks was accorded the Labour Day Sports Committee for the donation of a cup and a medal for messengers’ races. Amber and black were decided on as the recognised colours of the club. Votes of thanks were accorded Messrs. R. Aroa, R, Yardley, R. Lovell and .Dr. P. C. Davie for donations and assistance. 1 It was reported that Mr. Ben Tippins was willing to a,gain assist with collecting for the mountain race, and. the Retailers’ Association was written to for permission to collect. It was decided to write to the New Zealand Athletic and Cycling Union suggesting that the New Zealand road championship be allotted alternately to the North and South Islands each year. It was agreed not to apply for. the New Zealand open road championship. HANDICAPS FOR TO-DAY’. Fallowing are the handicaps for the New Plymouth League Cycling Club road races at Spotswood at 1.45 p.m. today:— Messengers, Omata, four miles—T. Horner scr, G. Tuffery 15sec, W. Martin 30sec, L. Stevens Imin, B. Gilbert linin. A grade, Oakura, 13J miles.—H. Boeock 30sec, A. E. Ellis 30sec, R. Sole Imin, G. Sole Ijmin, T. Haw IMnin, G. Gilbert 2min, J. Wigg 2min, L. Tuffery 3min L. Claffey Smin H, Cavaney 3min.
