MOSCOW SUFFERS FAMINE
BUTTER SELLS AT 2s Gd PER LB. By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. Berling, July 3. . The Boersen Courier reports a serious shortage of food, clothing and necessities in Moscow. Butter, in a country which was formerly a large exporter, is now 2s 6d per lb, and most of the rationed foodstuffs are unobtainable at the Government co-operative stores. Eggs are issued only for children’s consumption. The supplies of slaughtering cattle have stopped altogether, while clothing, footwear and other necessities are almost unobtainable at any price. Meanwhile, within the last two months, there has been a heavy deflation in the note circulation. The Courier states: ’'lf this is the state of affairs in the pampered capital, whose workmen are the basis of Bolshevism, what must it be in less favoured provincial towns?
