At Ngatarawa.

J. H. Jefferd has ten horses in work at Ngatarawa, writes the Dominion. They are Star Stranger, Doti Quixote, Cylinder, Hunting Day, Love 'Song, Vandyke, Sympathetic and three rising two-year-olds—Cyprus (brother to Cylinder by Limond from Cymene), Innuendo, a bay gelding by Tea Tray and Epitaph, and Actaeon (a brother to False Scent, .by Hunting Song from Crisis). Sympathetic is one of the last of the Martians, being a rising three-vear-old filly out of Sweet Charity, the dam of Knightlike. Jefferd will bring. Don Quixote and Vandyke to Trentham. The latter did not do. too well after his initial race at Hastings, having apparently spread himself slightly on the soft track. Don Quixote will be ridden at Trentham by R. Reed, but in accordance with the previous arrangement H. Gray will bo his pilot in the 'Winter Cup. Limerick Well.

The presence of Limerick was a special attraction at the Ashburton meeting on Saturday, according to a southern exchange. F. D. Jones welcomed the opportunity to take his champion, being of opinion that the trip, with a gallop in front of a race crowd, would benefit his preparation as much as a fortnight’s work on the training tracks. After parading in the birdcage, in company with, the Nightraid —Dutch Courage two-year-old, trained by J. J. Lewis for Mr. E. B. Newton, Limerick, ridden by G. Humphreys, came down the straight at half pace. He continued round the course, breaking away at a useful pace from the five-furlong post. The two-year-old picked him up at the entrance to the straight and they ran home at something approaching top speed, It was Limerick’s first public appearance in the Dominion since Aussie beat him in the Hazlett Gold Cup race at the Dunedin meeting in February of last year. He hit out freely and showed that he only had to keep sound to be a force in important events next season. Limerick’s owner, Mr. H. A. Knight, accompanied >y Mrs. Knight, made a trip to Ashbur-

ton to witness the gallop, which they viewed from the top of the stewards’ stand.Aston Stayed On. The Irish-bred gelding, Aston was seen in a new role on Saturday when he just squeezed home in the ten-fur-long Ladies’ Handicap at Napier, lieviously Aston has found half , the distance a worry to him but he is such a brilliant half-mile galloper that .he would be able to put a break on a field of tins class that would be difficult to make up. Wants Firm Going. In the light of the form shown by Flying Swift on the good track at Napier Park his poor display on the second day at Hawke’s Bay the previous week can be dismissed from caldilations when summing up his future prospects, writes “The - Watcher.'’ It is clear that he is no good on. soft ground. This may tell against him if he takes on any of his Wellington engagements, but the Riccarton track will suit him, and on what has so far been seen of him he will also negotiate without any difficulty the National fence* Youngsters Parade. A two-year-old parade was one of the features of the Waipa meeting on Saturday. writes the Waikato limes. The juveniles were dispatched in two divisions. The first division was won by A. J. McGovern’s br. g. Soloist (Hunting Song—Lucella),, with Messrs. A. M. and W. A. Fisher’s blk. g. Kingsway (Little England—Ruth); runner-up. The verdict in the second division went to Mr. W. G. Whitmore’s ch. g. Golden Sceptre (Rosenor —Moiselle), with. Mrs. M. B. Campbell’s ch. f. by Gainscourt— Holywell the next to finish. Soloist is a half-brother to Supremacy and is trained at Te Awamutu by W. Stone, who also trains the Gainscourt filly. Golden Sceptre is in A. Cook’s team and also displays marked promise, as does Kingsway, who is prepared by F. E. Loomb. There was some very promising material among the others seen out on. Saturday. - .
