PRELIMINARY MATTERS TOUCHED

The first meeting of the Royal Commission appointed to investigate 'all branches of the Railway Department’s activities and advise where economies could be made was held in Parliament ' Buildings to-day. Preliminary matters only were touched by members, who first met the Prime Minister, the Hon. G. W. Forbes, in hie room for discussion.’ A wide field has to' be covered by the. commission, which has had 19 points submitted to it in the order of reference, Regular meetings will be held from now on and a report is to be ready for presentation not later than September 1. Completion by that date will no doubt make it possible for the document to be discussed during the coming session of Parliament.
