EGG-LAYING COMPETITION

RESULTS FOR ELEVENTH WEEK. The results of the Taranaki egg-lay-ing competition for the week ending June 18:— WHITE LEGHORNS.

GENERAL ITEMS. The Manala men’s hoekey team outplayed Oriental at Manaia on Wednesday to win by 3 goals to 1. Manaia’s scorerswere Bennett (2) and Simmonds, while J. Maloney registered Oriental’s goal. Mr, Shepherd controlled the game. A keen game at Hawera between the Alhambra arid Otakeho men’s hockey teams resulted in a draw, each team scoring four goals. Ryan (2) and McGlashan (2) were the scorers for Hawera, while gurgenor (2), Nicholls and Laurie registered Otakeho’s goals. The referee was Mr, Davies. Realising that many keen Rugby enthusiasts will be in a dilemma as to whether to attend th© match between Okaiawa and Hawera at the Egrnont showgrounds to-morrow or to swell the crowds that will be gathered around loud-speakers listening to the broadcast description of the test match between New Zealand and Britain at Dunedin, the Hawera Football Club has made arrangements to have loud-speakers installed at the showgrounds. The machines have been loaned by Mr. W. W. Davy and the South Taranaki Electric power Board has been requested to supply the necessary wiring. By defeating the literary division of the Hawera technical High School by 9 points to 3 in a Rugby match yesterday the commercial division annexed the Good Cup, which for the past six years has been held by literary. In order to retain the cup, however, another challenge from the literary team must be met. For the winners Gray and M. Campbell scored tries and R. Campbell kicked;.fl: fine penalty goal.
