LEVEL CROSSING MENACE

AN ALLEGATION DENIED. By Telegraph—Press Association/: ■ Wellington, Last Night. ; In reply to a statement mh.de ■ 'at Wanganui’ that the Railway Department had done nothing to protect crossings, the department challenges its accuracy. It is stated that the Transport Conference had before it a few months ago a design for a portable notice with the word “Stop” in reflecting letters. This was approved by the conference, but material had to be sent for to construct these notices and has not yet arrived. So far from doing nothing, the department contends it ■■ has been very active in the matter.
