INCIDENT IN HOUSE
GIRL FOUND HELPLESS. INVESTIGATION BY POLICE. A peculiar happening occurred at a house in Mount Albert shortly before 10 o’clock on Sunday evening, states the New Zealand Herald. It is stated that an intruder broke into the house, and that a girl living there was found in a helpless condition on the step of the back door. The affair is a mysterious one, and members of the household are reticent. The occupier refused to discuss the matter when approached on Sunday evening, and said it was only desired to catch I “the brute” who was responsible. There were visitors at the house on Sunday evening, and the girl was alone in the kitchen preparing supper. Her long absence aroused suspicion, and on investigation bring made the girl was found in a helpless plight, hai ing been secured from giving an alarm. There was no trace of anyone in the vicinity,’and a search showed that nothin" was missing from the house. It is'stated that the household was disturbed by an intruder a few evenings ago. The police were notified of the affair and a detective investigated the circuni- : stances. When approached, the police were unwilling to give information.
