RUMOURED RAILWAY CUTS
MANAGER . HAS NO COMMENT. \ By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, June 10. Commenting on the - rumoured heavy cuts in the railway service, Mr. H. H. Sterling yesterday said he lia l i.o,announcement to make. ' . ' . !. The probability of such cuts are rather discounted by Mr, Sterling’s recent statement, when he indicated that the results of running the. “Daylight Limited” had been so satisfactory that the train would be continued. “The experiment made in running the .daylight limited expresses for a longer period in order that the general passenger traffic by these trains, as distinct from the, holiday excursion traffic, might have the opportunity to become established- is having the desired effect,” said Mr. Sterling. “These services now have steady business in passengers, much of it, I believe, being new or ‘induced* traffic.” “There is nothing in the statement; I have not heard anything about it,” wae the brief reply of the Minister of Railways (the Hon. W. A. Veitch) when his attention was drawn to the suggested railway curtailment. He added that no such statement had been authorised by him.
