NINETY MILE BEACH
SPEEDWAY FOR WORLD. . •AERIAL FILM BEING TAKEN. Tho Auckland Automobile Association, realising the importance to Auckland, and in fact the whole Dominion, of the Ninety Mile Beach as a speedwaymor making . attempts, on world’s re-, cords, has decided to advertise the famous beach abroad. At a meeting of the council of the association last week a recommendation from the sports committee, that a deputation wait bn tho Minister of Marine and Superintendent of Marine, with a view of obtaining for the association full control of the Ninety MiTe Beach, in the event of overseas drivers making attempts on speed records, was adopted. A further recommendation, that the council of the A.A.A. bear the cost -for making attempts on world’s reBeach, was also adopted. Tho secretary, Mr. G. W. Hutchinson, said the Minister of Tourist and Health Resorts, the Hon. P. A. de la Perrelle, had written regretting that he was unable to agree to the Government paying for the cost of a film for publicity' purposes. Tho president said the idea was to secure an aerial film of the- Ninety Mile Beach. Mr. H. Butcher could take the film with him when he left for England in a few days, and it would be shown at the High Commissioner’s office to racing drivers, in the hope that they would be encouraged to come to Auckland to attempt world’s records. “We have one of the finest beaches in the world for racing, and drivers attempting records can get a straightrun of 20 miles, as against a mile or so on other beaches,” said Mr. Grayson.
Flight-Lieut. D. N. Allen, pilot, and Mr. Rudall Hayward, cinematographer, are engaged in making tho film.
