BETTER BUYERS ACTIVE

LONDON MARKET BRIGHTER NEW ZEALAND PRICE UP TO 1345. BIG STOCKS STILL ON HAND. By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. Rec. 5.5 pan. London, June 14. A welcome change has come over the butter market since the Whitsun holidays, and during the last few days buyers have been more active than for a long time past. Mr. "Charles Wilson, a member of the Australian Dairy Produce Board, has returned to London after two months’ tour of the continent and industrial centres of Great Britain for the purpose of investigating the position-of the butter industry; - Interviewed by the Australian Press Association he said he had gathered the impression that/-continent-al countries had increased their herds largely, specially Germany. -.During hjs visit to the north o’’ England he found all the multiple shops selling Danish and New Zealand butter and a limited quantity of Australian, at Is 3d per lb, without any strong demand. Reviewing the position in London to-day Mr. Wilson estimated that the visible stocks in Great Britain exceeded a million boxes, but he thought that the market had now touched bottom.

Blenders and the multiple shops, continued Mr. Wilson, are now. operating freely, apparently thinking it desirable to provide for their autumn and, winter requirements while prices are moderate. Their operations had raised prices of. the choicest New Zealand butter to 134 s and Australian to 131 s. These operations, of course, would only mean a transfer of stocks an cold store from tho wholesale merchants to the multiple shops and blenders, and unless this butter was consumed before the end of the season its presence here would influence the values of the new season’s make.
