FIERCE RIOTING IN INDIA
RELIGIOUS PARTIES CLASH ATTACKS UPON THE POLICE • MANY CASUALTIES OCCUR By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. Rec. 7.5 p.m. Delhi, June 11. Four hundred persons were injured as the result of serious clashes between Hindus and Moslems in Baroda city and the town of Katadwanj in Baroda State. Trouble started over the stoning of a Moslem arc during the Mohurrum festival procession, and incensed Moslems attacked Hindus and police, whose protection the latter sought. The procession was dispersed, but Moslems continued to attack the Hindus and burnt several of their houses. Armed police are now guarding Baroda city. Further clashes between Moslems and Hindus occurred in Dacca, in Eastern Bengal, the scene of recent riots, and in retaliation for the burning of their houses Moslems stoned Hindus and fierce fighting ensued. It was quelled with difficulty by the police. An infuriated mob of thousands, armed with spears and daggers, attacked a party of police in a village near Calcutta last night. The police opened fire, killing one and injuring many.
