NOTIFICATIONS IN TARANAKI.* ..’. - • / The. numbers of infectious diseases notified in the Taranaki health district in May and for the first five months of the year show improvements when compared with the figures for ,the cor-, responding' periods of last year. The number of cases notified during the month was 34, including scarlet fever 8, diphtheria 14, pulmonary tuberculosis 6, pneumonia 5 and erysipelas 1. Compared with the previous year the figures show an increase of 15 cases and a decrease of 13, making a net increase of two. Compared with the corresponding month of last year there, was an increase of 14 cases and a decrease of 24, leaving a net decrease of ten cases. The total number of infectious cases notified during the first five months of the year was 149, being an increase in certain cases of 14 and decreases in others of 114, leaving a net decrease in the number of cases for the period of 100. The decreases have been principally in cases of scarlet fever and pneumonia.
