INDUSTRIAL RABBITS

NE'W SECTION INTRODUCED LARGE ENTRIES JUDGED. ANGORAS AND CHINCHILLAS. An innovation at the New Plymouth show this year is the section for industrial rabbits. Classes for Angoras and Chinchillas have been instituted, and have attracted 47 entries. This display is certain to prove attractive to children. “It was pleasing to see such a satisfactory entry in both the Angora and Chinchilla classes,” said the judge, Mr. A. T. Moore, New Plymouth. The champion Angora, an adult buck, owned by Messrs. Ferguson and MacGregor, was a particularly fine rabbit, carrying a splendid coat, he continued, and the animal had very little to spare in beating the winner in the adult doe class, owned by Mrs. R. Beale, Wanganui. This latter rabbit was penned in ideal condition. but would do with a little more finishing. A number of the Angoras showed a tendency to grow too much hair. The champion Chinchilla, belonging to Messrs. Ferguson and MacGregor, was in the doe class, but here, again, said the judge, there was little between this exhibit and the winning buck, also owned by Messrs. Ferguson and MacGregor. Some of the rabbits had rather much white at the nape, of the neck, and in one or two instances exhibits were inclined to show rust. A striking feature of the rabbit section was a pair of golden fawn Angoras shown as a display by Mrs. Beale, of Wanganui. Detailed results are: — RABBITS. Judge, Mr. A. T.
