At the end of the second day’s play in t‘he Middlesex match the Australians are in a-strong position. This was mainly due to a sparkling display by Kippax, who revealed true form for the first time on the tour. With Fairfax, ha added 04 for the sixth wicket. Kippax steadily approached the 100, which occupied 210 minutes. His- wag a chanceless innings. Grimmett hit hard and--had a short and happy knock. The former Australian, Allen, bowled admirably, with fine speed and stamina, and finished with six for 77 runs.' The last four wickets fell for eight runs. Walker, behind the stumps, received a severe blow in the second over and had to leave the field. Richardson took the gloves, and succeeded in stumping Stevens. Three wickets were down for 38, and Hendren should have been run out before he scored. With Middlesex fighting (jo staye oil defeat the runs came slowly. Hornibrook did not seem to receive the same assistance from the pitch as yesterday. Hendren -nd Allen put the home side in a stronger, position. Hendren was the£ set and scored freely.
